Residents and educators press Lubbock ISD on library books and removal process

Several members of the public raised concerns about library materials during the citizen comment period. Bonnie Wallace read from a high-school book she asked the district to remove, and Anne Ivey urged action to limit student access to content she called inappropriate.
President Nancy Sharp reminded speakers of the three-minute limit for remarks and trustees asked Dr. Kathy Rollo to review the formal reconsideration procedure. Dr. Rollo said the district had not received a reconsideration form for the three books referenced and explained the process required by Senate Bill 13: a citizen challenge form is submitted to the district and then reviewed by the School Library Advisory Council. The board did not take immediate action during the meeting.
