Commission backs rezoning for George's Tire parcels on Pine Street

The Planning Commission recommended on June 3 that City Commission amend the Future Land Use and Zoning Map for parcels at 412 and 413 Pine Street to permit commercial uses and to allow the owner to expand his automotive repair operations. Owner and petitioner George Katros told the commission there is no permanent structure at 412 Pine St. and that he intends to expand his garage; he stated his business hours are "8-5 daily and Saturdays 8-1 p.m." The requested city Future Land Use change is to Commercial Corridor and the proposed zoning is Commercial Highway (CH), which allows automotive service stations, repair garages and other commercial uses.
City Planner Jesse Pearson said staff recommends approval, that the amendments are consistent with surrounding commercial development, and that properties within 300 feet were notified as required. Pearson noted that buffering (for example a fence) will be required between the business and adjacent residential uses. Commissioner Donishia Yarde moved and Commissioner Dave Holt seconded the recommendation; the motion passed unanimously.
