Commission recommends annexation for new Hickory Road spray field site

Staff presented a City‑initiated large‑scale annexation of approximately 73.70 acres on Hickory Road proposed for an Open Use Agricultural (OUA) zoning classification to accommodate a spray field. Community Development Director Julie Womble said the parcel is adjacent to Polk County property and the Tenoroc Fish Management Area and that the request aligns with other city-established spray fields.
Commissioners asked about the location and whether additional spray fields will be needed as the city grows. Director Womble said the request responds to growth and utility needs. The commission voted unanimously to recommend both the Future Land Use and Zoning Map amendments for the Hickory Road spray field.
