Committee clears Baker rezoning to split 40-acre Newton parcel into two 20-acre lots

On Aug. 7, 2025, the Marquette County Planning and Zoning Committee voted 5-0 to approve a rezoning application by Steven and Kristi Baker for a 40-acre parcel in Section 17, T17N R09E, Town of Newton, forwarding the request to the County Board.
Planning staff reported that the owners intend to divide the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter into two 20-acre parcels to facilitate the split. The Town of Newton had approved the application. Kathy Jo Locke moved to approve the rezoning and forward it to the County Board; Dave Benson seconded the motion, which carried 5-0.
The committee recorded no dissent and no public opposition in the minutes. The County Board will take up final action at a subsequent meeting.
