Board briefed on SB 546 compliance for school buses; district aims for full compliance by 2028–29

Ken Wolf, Midway ISD’s director of operations, updated trustees on the district’s school-bus compliance with Senate Bill 546's three-point seat-belt requirements. Wolf described the current compliance status of the fleet and the administrative requirement that the Board and Administration submit a decision to the Texas Education Agency by the end of the 2025–26 school year regarding the cost to retrofit existing buses.
Wolf said Midway ISD’s goal is "to be fully compliant with SB 546 by the beginning of the 2028-2029 school year" and that the district plans to utilize 2025 bond-allocated funds of $6,000,000 toward new buses. The presentation was informational; trustees did not take formal action to adopt a retrofit plan at the March meeting.
