Mesquite ISD board adopts $2025–26 budget after public hearing

The Mesquite Independent School District Board of Trustees adopted the fiscal 2025–26 budget following a public hearing on June 8, 2026.
Gilbert Prado presented the proposed budget during the public hearing; after discussion, Mrs. Hornsby moved and Mr. Carbo seconded a motion to adopt the budget, which passed unanimously. The board said the adopted budget provides authority to expend funds for the succeeding fiscal year in accordance with state law and district policy.
Board documents and the discussion noted that revenue projections were revised during the process: overall revenue projections increased by $1,202,836. Local revenue was projected to increase by $4,339,236 due to rising property values, while state revenue was projected to decline by $3,136,400 because of lower enrollment and average daily attendance estimates. The district also described shifts in funding sources, including an estimated $1.5 million in salaries moving from the IDEA-B grant and $1.2 million in transfers to cover internal deficits.
The board framed adoption as a required procedural step under Section 44.002 of the Texas Education Code. No member recorded a nay vote on the final adoption. The board will implement the budget under the direction of the superintendent or a designee.
