Mercedes ISD board authorizes multiple RFPs for employee benefits and related services

The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously April 21 to advertise Requests for Proposals for multiple employee benefit and insurance services for the 2026–2027 school year.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola recommended the district seek proposals for a self-funded medical benefits third-party administrator with PPO network access, voluntary employee insurance products and pharmacy management services, saying the procurements would allow the district to compare costs and provider options. "Administration was recommending approval" to advertise the solicitations, the minutes record. Trustee Orlando Rodriguez moved to approve and Trustee Rachel Trevino seconded; the vote was 5–0 in favor.
The board also authorized pursuing proposals for workers' compensation insurance, again by unanimous vote. The administration emphasized that going to the market is intended to identify potential savings and better service terms for employees.
