The Medina Valley Independent School District Board of Trustees convened a special meeting on July 15, 2026, at the district’s Central Office Board Room. Board President Nathan Fillinger called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m.; a quorum was present and Trustee Ben Juarez was recorded absent.
The board entered closed session under provisions of the Texas Government Code (including Sections 551.071, 551.074 and 551.0821) for consultation with counsel, personnel matters, and discussion involving personally identifiable student information; the minutes state the board reconvened in open session at 6:01 p.m. and that no action took place during closed session itself. In open session the board approved the Superintendent’s recommendations to hire Sandy Bermea as Executive Director of Elementary Schools and Kristin Rodriguez as Director of Elementary Curriculum; both motions were moved by Trustee Matt Castiglione and seconded by Trustee Joe Biediger and are recorded as passing with all members present voting in favor. The board also approved a special education mediation agreement and delegated authority to the Superintendent to execute it; the minutes do not disclose terms of that agreement.
The posted unofficial minutes list a budget workshop and a curriculum workshop on the agenda but do not include substantive descriptions or outcomes for those items in the public record. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. following a motion by Trustee Matt Castiglione, seconded by Trustee Kelly Van Sickle.
