Students at MET Sacramento High School urged the Sacramento City Unified School District board to investigate the recent firing of their after‑school coordinator, Rebecca Elizalde, and described a pattern of staff departures they say has harmed students.
"Rebecca was fired during the summer," student Marley Clay told the board, adding that Elizalde ‘‘was a professional staff member who was a part of many student support systems’’ and helped students with clubs, driver's‑education and college‑prep activities. Clay said she and other students handed the board contact information and testimony — including anonymous accounts from current staff who fear retaliation — and asked the district to "ask questions, reach out to these women" and investigate further.
Several other MET students and alumni spoke in support of the school and Elizalde, praising the dual‑language and student‑support programs she helped run. Sophie Stoddard said Elizalde helped her enroll in a driving program after a family bereavement, and alumni Cesar Peña Calderon described long‑term benefits from the Language Academy model. The board did not take immediate action during public comment but heard the students' request and accepted the materials they submitted.
The students' testimony came during the public‑comment portion of the board meeting; the board did not announce any formal inquiry or timeline for follow‑up during the meeting.
