New Canby park officially named 'Daphne Glen'; soft opening expected this week

The Canby City Council on Aug. 5 adopted Resolution 1468 officially naming the new park on North Locust Street "Daphne Glen," citing the site's horticultural history. Parks staff told the council the property was formerly a family-run nursery where daphne plants were grown, and the parks board recommended the name as reflecting the city's identity as a "garden spot."
Parks project manager Spencer (speaker 20) said the city is finishing contract closeouts and working through contractor turf establishment and supply challenges. "I'm hoping the soft opening can be this week," he said, adding the city is aiming for a grand opening the week of the fair. Council voted to adopt the resolution; the resolution takes effect Aug. 5, 2026.
Council thanked the Parks & Recreation advisory board for developing a process for naming parks and asked staff to coordinate opening dates and public outreach.
