Board updates device and absence policies, creates local library advisory council

At the July 23 meeting, Merkel ISD trustees approved several policy updates and a new advisory committee. The board adopted policy FNCE (local) to require students to keep personal communication devices on silent or off during school hours; Brit Pursley moved the motion, which was seconded by Angela Head and adopted unanimously.
Trustees also approved updates to FM (local) concerning extra-curricular activity absences and passed a resolution establishing a Local School Library Advisory Council and related updates to EFB (local). Administration presented the policies as routine updates and each motion was recorded as passing unanimously.
