Merkel ISD board adopts 2025–26 student and athletic codes; handbooks reviewed

The Merkel ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously July 23 to adopt the district's 2025'26 Student Code of Conduct and the 2025'26 Athletic Code of Conduct. Trustee Kerry Fryar moved to approve the Student Code of Conduct "as presented," and the motion carried without objection.
Trustees also reviewed the Student Handbook and the Employee Handbook, which were made available for board review but not amended at the meeting. The adoption of the codes follows routine annual updates presented by administration; the Athletic Code approval was handled in the same motion block and recorded by the secretary. The board recorded all motions as passing unanimously.
