Mercedes ISD board approves RFQ to prequalify engineering firms, expands scope to include civil and geotechnical services

The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously March 24 to authorize administration to issue a request for qualifications to prequalify engineering firms for routine and emergency work.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Alicia Noyola told the board that administration "recommends proactively issuing an RFQ to establish a prequalified pool for engineering services to include Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Building Envelope Engineering to expedite procurement during emergencies." Board President Marcos J. Garcia IV asked that the RFQ also be expanded to include civil, structural and geotechnical services; administration said it would amend the solicitation accordingly.
Board members said the prequalification process is intended to shorten procurement timelines for urgent repairs such as chiller failures or building-envelope emergencies. Mr. Orlando Rodriguez moved to approve the RFQ with the requested additions; Mr. Ricardo Hinojosa seconded the motion, which passed on a unanimous roll call vote.
