Council accepts low bid for Alley A1 rehabilitation behind Amsted

Universal City staff recommended and council approved awarding the Alley A1 rehabilitation contract after a competitive bid process. The presenter said the project — the alley behind Amsted adjacent to the 1604 access road — received six responsive bidders and a low bid of $256,446.34.
"This bid came in by Brooks Paving. They were our low bid... The low bid came in at $256,446.34," the public-works project manager said, and recommended awarding to Bridal Paving (the contractor currently working on other city streets). The presenter explained the work will rebuild subgrade, place geogrid and apply a final coat to reinforce alleys not originally built to heavy-truck standards.
Council approved the award; staff explained contract terms include provisions for the contractor to move residents' trash cans on collection days so garbage service can continue during construction.
Work scheduling and potential proximity to the 1604 sound-abatement wall were discussed briefly; staff said the work zone is roughly six feet from the wall and any damage would be the contractor's responsibility.
