Council awards CDBG-backed Westway Drive street-improvement contract after low bid

Universal City staff recommended and council approved awarding the CDBG-funded Westway Drive street-improvement contract to Bridal Paving after receiving seven responsive bids and a low bid of $472,338.87.
"We received 7 bids and our low bid came in at $472,338.87," the project manager said, noting that Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were awarded in an amount that may cover much of the bid and could reduce or eliminate the city's match obligation. The presenter recommended awarding the contract to Bridal Paving, which is already performing other city street work.
Council moved, seconded and voted to approve the bid award; staff said if the final CDBG allocation covers the full cost, the city may not have to spend the budgeted local match.
Work will proceed under standard contract requirements including contractor responsibilities for temporary trash-can staging and other resident accommodations.
