The Hillsborough City Commission approved a vinyl wrap design for a caboose that incorporates artwork created by local students and refined by a volunteer pastor. Commissioners said the first vendor quoted a final price “three times as much as what they first told us,” so the city purchased the graphic design and accepted a lower quote from a local installer, a Hillsborough graduate who offered a more reasonable price.
The chair described the design elements — the letters of “Hillsborough” rendered with local landmarks such as a water tower and grain elevator — and asked staff to coordinate with the railroad and the chosen vendor for installation. Nicole moved to approve the design and local wrap; Paul seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Staff will supply the vendor contact and work with railroad officials for permissions.
