The Nacogdoches Independent School District Board of Trustees on June 18 approved the district's 2026–27 budget and tax rates following a public hearing. Chief Financial Officer Ben Eberlan presented proposed figures, including a proposed Maintenance and Operations tax rate of "$0.7552" and an Interest and Sinking tax rate of "$0.3800." The board voted to adopt the budget in open session; the motion to adopt the budget was made by Demond Jackson and seconded by Cheryl Brady and passed with five trustees voting yea and two absent.
The public hearing, held earlier in the meeting, included a summary of fund-level totals: proposed General Fund revenues of $64,513,825 and proposed General Fund expenditures of $71,490,177. Eberlan also presented the Student Nutrition Fund totals (proposed revenues of $5,124,402 and expenditures of $5,556,497) and Debt Service fund figures (revenues and expenditures listed at $9,685,000). "Proposed Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate of $0.7552. Proposed Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate of $0.3800," Eberlan stated during the hearing.
Trustees approved the budget as presented; the motion to adopt passed unanimously among members present (Yea: 5, Nay: 0, Absent: 2). The adoption follows standard board procedure after holding the statutorily required public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate. The district will implement the adopted budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
