New trustee sworn in; board elects Sosa president, Reyna vice president

Mission Consolidated Independent School District trustees convened May 26 and administered the oath of office to Abby S. Reyna for Place 1. The oath was administered by Texas DPS Trooper Ricky Reyna Jr.; after taking the oath Abby Reyna thanked family, friends and supporters and "expressed their commitment to continuing to serve the District and act in the best interest of the students." President Dolores Reyna recessed the meeting briefly for a reception; the board returned to open session at 7:33 p.m.
The meeting turned to reorganization later in the evening. Trustee Dolores Reyna moved to table the item because of an absent trustee; that tabling motion failed 2–4. Trustee Beto Garza then nominated and the board approved a slate of officers: Natividad Sosa as Board President, Abby Reyna as Vice President and Victor O'Caña as Secretary. The nomination motion passed 4–2, with Jerry Zamora and Dolores Reyna voting no and one trustee absent. The changes take effect immediately for board operations.
