Forest Hills honors National Merit commended students and semifinalists

Presenters -- introduced by the board as Mr. Fender and Mr. Jados -- recognized National Merit commended scholars and semifinalists from Anderson and Turpin High Schools, reading dozens of student names and inviting them forward for photos and refreshments.
"This is one of the best things that Mr. Jados and I get to do, and that's recognize outstanding students for really, really special accomplishments," one presenter said as the board applauded. The presenters described the scale of the program (roughly 1.5 million students take the PSAT nationally) and explained that commended status represents the top 3% while semifinalist status represents about the top 1%. The board congratulated the students and noted one semifinalist achieved a perfect score.
Students and family members were invited to a short reception and photos immediately after the ceremony. Board members thanked staff and families for supporting the students' classroom and extracurricular work.
