Committee asked to review JKAA seclusion and restraint policy ahead of Aug. 17 requirement

Superintendent Dr. Marcus told the committee that a district policy labelled JKAA — covering seclusion, restraint and time out — had recently come to his attention and that he had referred it to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC) and to the policy subcommittee for review.
"It's a new regulation about, seclusion, restraint, and time out that the department has been working on for quite a while and is mandated to be in place and ready to go on August 17," Dr. Marcus said. He placed a copy of the policy in the meeting packet so committee members could review it before the next meeting, and he noted the committee could vote to waive additional readings if they were prepared to act.
A committee member asked colleagues to review JKAA by the 26th so the committee could potentially vote to waive second and third readings and comply with the department timeline. No final vote on JKAA occurred at this meeting; committee members were asked to study the draft ahead of the next meeting.
