"We've hired over 20 people so far, since the end of the year. We've got about 12 positions to go that include teachers and paras," Dr. Marcus said, adding that a few recent resignations have created additional vacancies but that overall hiring was going well.
Dr. Marcus outlined a two-track professional development approach for the year. One districtwide track will emphasize engagement through three categories—thinking, understanding and connection—drawing on tools from Relay and the Barr Foundation. A second, peer-driven track will match staff requests for help on specific classroom practices to colleagues who can provide targeted support.
The superintendent also noted ongoing construction on district property and steps to secure sites while work continues. Committee members were asked to review a proposed JKAA policy in the meeting packet ahead of a future vote to ensure regulatory compliance.
