Ms. Erica Gauthier explained the State Board of Education requires annual certification that instructional materials cover the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS); the board approved the TEKS certification as presented. Gauthier also requested approval of a staff-development minutes waiver allowing the district to use up to 2,100 student-instruction minutes for staff training activities in lieu of some instructional minutes, and the board approved the waiver unanimously (motion Mosley, second Scott; vote 7–0).
Gauthier said the district strives to provide high-quality instruction and that the waiver enables staff training on educational strategies intended to improve student performance.
