The board approved purchases over $50,000 during the May 18 meeting; district officials said the items primarily fund instructional materials and training vendors.
CFO Cody Meaux and Assistant Superintendent Erica Gauthier told trustees the purchases included an item for "1,800 Lenovo Chrome student laptops. These will be leased to spread the cost over 3 years and it guarantees that we will get the devices before school starts." Trustee Micah Mosley moved to approve the purchases and Trustee Roya Scott seconded; the motion passed 7-0.
The lease spreads capital costs across three budget years and was presented as a way to secure timely delivery of student devices ahead of the next school year.
