Nicholas Phillips convened the Nederland Independent School District Board of Trustees at 6:00 p.m. April 20, where Superintendent Dr. Steven Beagle introduced Torrey Gomez of Hillcrest Elementary. Gomez was named Region 5 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association and was recently named principal of Hillcrest Elementary.
Assistant Superintendent Erica Gauthier told trustees district enrollment stands at 5,341 students, an increase of eight from last year, and that the district’s alternative campus (DAEP) enrollment is 16 compared with 14 the prior year. Gauthier also reported that all campuses received Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) recognition as Showcase Schools. Technology Director Natasha Ray and Instructional Technology Specialist Shaneigh Smith described a newly formed AI Committee charged with developing district expectations and best practices for artificial intelligence use.
