Two members of the public asked the Jerome County Board of Commissioners to remove or reduce penalties assessed for late property tax payments. Johnny Gomez said he missed the deadline by a month, paid his taxes with $133.44 in penalties and interest, and asked the board for relief. Commissioner Ben Crouch moved to waive the $133.44 and credit it toward next year’s taxes for parcel RPJ17770030340; Commissioner Art Watkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Later, Mike Walker described property ownership and litigation issues that resulted in two parcels being sent toward tax deed; staff reported the parcels would be deeded to the county unless taxes were paid. Commissioner Charles M. Howell moved to waive interest, penalties, and fees totaling $1,338.52 for parcels RP007340030040 and RP007340030030 on the condition that the 2022 taxes be paid by July 24; Commissioner Watkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
