Board members reviewed cost estimates for two renovation projects and voted to approve adding the work to Parkway Elementary's existing pay application to conserve contractor continuity. Birch Elementary renovations were estimated at $1,250,000 (about $350,000 over its planned budget) for hallway wall panels, cafeteria work, restroom upgrades and conversion of space to a Life Skills restroom. High School renovations were estimated at $980,000 (about $30,000 over budget) for carpet replacement, hallway renovations and Little Theatre improvements.
The district reported that the combined $380,000 overage could be absorbed by savings realized in other bond projects and that selected HVAC replacements at the High School would be funded from interest earned on bond proceeds. Trustee Melanie Roudkovski moved to approve adding the Birch and High School renovations to Parkway's project; Trustee Frank Richards seconded the motion and the board recorded a Yea vote (6), Nay (0).
