Pilot Point ISD trustees voted unanimously to determine that full replacement of nine school buses to meet Texas Senate Bill 546 three-point seat restraint standards is not financially feasible within the law's timeline. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brant Perry presented the fleet status and cost estimates and recommended the board adopt a feasibility determination based on current prices.
Dr. Perry told the board that the district operates nine buses lacking three-point harnesses and provided cost estimates: "replacement buses cost approximately $154,000 each, resulting in an estimated total replacement cost of approximately $1,386,000 for these nine buses." He also recited retrofit estimates that, depending on bus make and feasibility, would total roughly $295,000. Following that presentation, the board approved a motion finding full replacement is not financially feasible. The motion was made by Amy McEvoy, seconded by Craig Bickers, and passed 7–0.
