Pilot Point ISD secures LASO Cycle 4 funding, plans teacher residency with UNT

Pilot Point Independent School District announced it secured Leadership and Academic Success Opportunities (LASO) Cycle 4 funding to support teacher recruitment and retention initiatives. Assistant Superintendent Alicia Bonnett told the board the district's LASO Cycle 3 work and a math framework contributed to improved outcomes, and Valerie Wall confirmed the Cycle 4 award includes Teacher Residency and Mentor Teacher program allotments.
"The District has received the allotment for both Teacher Residency and Mentor Teacher programs, and will be partnering with the University of North Texas (UNT) for our Teacher Residency program and with the Education Service Center Region 11 for the Mentor Teacher initiative," Valerie Wall said. School leaders said the programs are intended to support, grow, and retain highly qualified teachers and build on a mid-year data point showing a 19% increase over the same time one year earlier, cited by Bonnett. The board received the report as informational and included the LASO update in meeting materials.
