PSJA board recognizes student and staff achievements: mock trial, robotics, swim and counseling awards

Trustees honored student achievements across Mock Trial, UIL robotics, swim & dive district championships, Tex. School Counselor CREST awards, National Board–Certified teachers and H‑E‑B Excellence finalists.
The board opened the Feb. 23 meeting with multiple recognitions celebrating students and staff across PSJA ISD. Dr. Alejandro Elias and program staff presented accomplishments that included Mariana Arcos, a PSJA Southwest sophomore courtroom artist who placed first at regionals and advanced to the State Mock Trial contest in Dallas; PSJA Thomas Jefferson T‑STEM robotics teams that qualified and placed at the UIL state competition; and numerous swimmers who won district titles and qualified for regionals and state competition. Superintendent Elias and Board President Ricardo Rodriguez congratulated students, coaches and sponsors.
Administrators also recognized 21 counselors across PSJA campuses for earning the 2025 CREST Award from the Texas School Counselor Association, and the district celebrated two teachers who earned National Board Certification (Yvonne Chamblin and Dr. Mercedes Yanez). Dr. Susana Arredondo noted two H‑E‑B Excellence in Education finalists among the district’s elementary teachers and highlighted PSJA ISD as a district finalist—the only district from the Valley competing for final recognition.
