Dr. Orlando Noyola, assistant superintendent for student services, described the contract as supporting four community sites, transportation services, job‑readiness internships and academic supports; administrators said the club served more than 2,500 PSJA students in 2024–25.
Board discussion focused on program evaluation, funding sources and timing. Trustee Cynthia A. Gutierrez urged postponement until the district audit was presented so trustees could assess the district’s finances before committing funds; Dr. Elias and supporters argued the program provides critical supervised afterschool space and supports working families. "When it comes to students, students come first," Dr. Alejandro Elias said in defense of the expenditure. The motion to approve the contract passed with four trustees voting in favor and two abstentions (Gutierrez and Griselda Quintanilla).
