The Fort Myers CRA presented and approved a series of downtown resiliency mitigation grants designed to help commercial property owners harden storefronts and maintain business continuity during storms.
Executive Director Michelle Hilton Terry described the program as offering reimbursements up to 75% of eligible costs with a maximum award of $100,000 per business and listed eligible uses including protective barriers, water-management systems, structural reinforcement, generators and post-storm cleanup equipment. Terry said several applications were approved at the meeting, ranging from smaller barrier purchases to near‑maximum requests for comprehensive plans; she noted one applicant had a projected cost of about $133,000 and requested the $100,000 program maximum.
Council action authorized the grants and, in one case, a conditional approval pending submission of final window cost estimates before payment.
