The Taos Parks and Recreation Board approved a proposal to install a Blue Star Memorial marker at Taos Countryside Park during its July 27 meeting. Guest speaker Pat Bax, representing the Capital Garden Club and the Federated Garden Club, outlined plans to secure grant funding and select a site at the park that would accommodate gatherings and dedications.
Pat Bax said she "will apply for a grant from Heart Foundation to pay for the Marker, $2500, 41” x 45”, placed in concrete," and described the marker as sized and sited for public ceremonies. Kevin Gordon moved to approve the sign at the park; Kim Kline seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously in favor. According to the board minutes, Pat Bax will take the approved proposal to the City Council at its next meeting for additional action.
The marker is being proposed as part of the Federated Garden Club's 250th celebration effort to place Blue Star markers in communities. The board did not vote on specific placement coordinates at the meeting; site selection and installation details will be coordinated with city staff and with the City Council at the upcoming council meeting.
