Pampa ISD trustees authorize architect to arrange engineering for Pampa High School track replacement

The Pampa ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Oct. 10 to authorize the district architect to provide additional engineering services for replacement of the 400-meter track at Pampa High School and to allow the superintendent to execute the agreement.

Hugh Piatt, superintendent, told trustees that "the 400 meter track at the high school is in desperate need of refurbishment" and that the project "falls under the Texas Occupations Code statutory requirement of an engineer to prepare plans, specifications and construction supervision." The administration said Shiver-Megert & Associates, the district's architect under contract, plans to engage CEI Engineering as a consultant and that administration staff will report back to the board with quotes for engineering and construction costs.

Trustee Denise Intemann moved to authorize the District's architect to provide engineering services related to the track replacement and to authorize the superintendent to provide the architect written notice; Trustee Cade Taylor seconded. The motion "carried unanimously with six votes," according to the meeting minutes. The board did not specify dollar amounts or a construction schedule at the session; the administration will return with cost estimates and further details.

Next steps identified at the meeting include finalizing a letter agreement with Shiver-Megert & Associates and soliciting engineering and construction quotes. No formal construction contract was approved at the Oct. 10 special session.
