Director: book-distributor exits created a months-long backlog in orders and invoices
Summary
Director told the board that Baker & Taylor’s exit and Ingram’s capacity problems left the library with about three months of delayed deliveries and invoices, which affected spending timing and acquisition schedules.

The director said a recent reshaping of the book-distributor market disrupted the library’s acquisitions timeline. "They were about 3 months behind in delivering books, so that means that they're about 3 months behind in invoicing," she said, describing how the closure and service issues forced a shift among suppliers and created a backlog.
Board members heard that the library has worked with finance and its vendor contacts to clear the backlog and that some invoicing arrived in bulk when the new finance system kicked in. The director said while deliveries and invoicing have mostly cleared up, the episode temporarily depressed recorded spending and required staff attention to reconcile orders and payments.
