Dr. Teri Shaw, speaking to the Mokena School District 159 Finance Committee on Nov. 18, 2024, reviewed the district's Summer 2024 capital work and said multiple projects remain active, including the MJH chiller, MES/MIS playground and parking-lot expansion, and several building repairs. The minutes record that "There has been a lack of response from the contractor; no payments will be made until there is more progress." The committee recorded an action to place an item on the Nov. 20 regular Board meeting agenda to consider increasing the project amount.
The debrief listed other summer work that remains in progress or under procurement: window film districtwide, MES front entrance replacement, MES/MIS flooring and electrical work, bus barn sewer piping repair, painting, a walk-in freezer project, and parking-lot coating repairs. Committee members directed that payments to the unresponsive contractor be withheld until demonstrable progress occurs and advanced the administrative step of routing a funding/increase request to the full Board for Nov. 20. The minutes do not record a vote count on the referral; the action appears as an item for the Board to consider.
