District reports strong assessment results; MJH earns 'Exemplary' summative designation

Dr. Kristin Johnson, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, presented Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) and Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) results at the Nov. 20 board meeting. In her presentation she reported that Mokena students showed math growth above the state average and that "Mokena School District 159 ranks in the top 11% of Illinois School districts for the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards" in ELA and in the top 24% for science.
Johnson also reported school-level summative designations: Mokena Elementary School and Mokena Intermediate School were designated "Commendable," while Mokena Junior High School received an "Exemplary" designation. The district said it will share updates from committee work and task forces, and Dr. Johnson noted the Advanced Learner Task Force will present recommendations in December.
