Fort Myers accepts Hurricane Ian memorial donated by Schwartz family; unveiling set for Sept. 28

The City of Fort Myers accepted a Hurricane Ian memorial gift from Violet and Paul Schwartz during the Sept. 15 council meeting.
Council and family members spoke of the memorial’s purpose to honor those who lost their lives and to recognize community resilience. The plaque will be hung in the City Hall lobby and a public unveiling with a moment of silence is scheduled for noon on Sept. 28. Donors thanked city staff and volunteers who helped bring the memorial to fruition.
Council members and staff expressed appreciation for the gift and noted the memorial is intended both to remember losses and to remind the community of ongoing recovery work.
