LARC seeks $5.7 million expansion; council hears presentation on training, shelter and culinary program

Angela Katz, executive director of LARC (S10), presented the nonprofit’s history and a proposed $5,700,000 expansion to the council on Sept. 15.
Katz described LARC’s 71-year history and three core programs—adult day training, community support services and residential programs—and said the expansion, supported in part by the City of Fort Myers and Lee County CDBG funds, will harden the kitchen to serve during disasters, add an 8,000-square-foot adult day training building and a third residential group home. "We will be able to operate that facility during gray skies for our community," Katz said. She also announced a four-month commercial culinary training curriculum to help people with unique abilities transition into food-service careers.
Katz credited supporters including Tom Golisano and the Golisano Foundation and cited partnerships with local employers. The council did not take immediate action on funding at the meeting but heard the presentation and thanked the organization for its community services.
