Health department reports staffing vacancies, training outcomes and community clinics

Deputy Director Deanna Ryan told the board the department is recruiting for several positions, including Director of Environmental Health, Lead Program Manager, a Community Outreach and Education Coordinator, a Public Health Nurse, and a WIC nutritionist. Ryan said recruitment continues through online postings and social media.
Ryan also reported program activity: the Public Health Fellows program ends July 30 (one fellow will leave in May), a bi-annual septic system inspector course in March certified 15 new inspectors, an early-April rabies vaccination clinic at the SPCA vaccinated 130 dogs, cats and ferrets, and the Lead Program hosted an RRP training attended by seven people. Health Education staff are preparing for Bike to School Day in early May and will attend Auburn School District kindergarten registration events to share program information.
Dr. Cassandra Archer provided clinical program updates: offsite lead testing clinics at CAP-Headstart are underway, March communicable-disease trends were typical for the season, first-quarter MCH referrals increased after local providers integrated referrals into their EMR, and four breastfeeding mothers received in-person lactation visits. The department's first-quarter quality assurance meeting identified no clinical or actionable items.
