Council on Aging reports steady service volumes, center reopening planned

Miss Gore, representing the council on aging, updated the committee on the agency's operations and thanked Horry County for funding that preserved services.
“Our congregate meals are 50,748,” Miss Gore said, reporting that home-delivered meals totaled 55,053 and that the agency provided 21,118 miles of medical transportation. She told the council the program currently operates 10 senior centers after consolidating two facilities, and that a consolidated Loris–Mount Vernon center will reopen on June 30.
Miss Gore said the organization marked its 50th year of service and that county support, plus fundraising, allowed the agency to avoid cuts despite rising costs for food, shipping and energy. “Thanks to Horry County, fundraising, and friends, we are prepared to sustain our same level of service for the upcoming year,” she said.
The update included operational figures and program emphasis: congregate meals at senior centers, home-delivered meals, homemaker services, and transported miles for medical trips. The council asked no follow-up questions and moved on to the financial report.
