Dr. Steven Beagle briefed the trustees on Senate Bill 11 and its requirement that boards decide whether to adopt a daily prayer time. He explained the district already permits students and organizations to pray and read religious texts at times of their choosing throughout the school day.
Following that explanation, a motion by Jerry Albanese, seconded by Tonya Mitchell, carried 5-0 not to adopt the SB 11 resolution. President Nicholas Phillips said the district "understands the importance of an individual's right to choose and participate in religious practices of their choice" and that the district will not restrict students from praying or reading religious text outside instructional time.
