The Presque Isle City Council on Aug. 5 voted 5–0 to approve a liquor, lodging and entertainment license for Time Out Sports Bar and Restaurant LLC, located at 116 Main Street.
City Manager Sonia told the council that "public safety has some concerns," and presented three options: deny, table, or approve the license. Leslie Diaz, who identified herself as one of the managers of the Presque Isle Hotel (which houses the bar), said the license expired June 23 and the business has been closed since then; she outlined steps the operators would take to reduce risks if allowed to reopen. Diaz said, "We're not gonna have any more entertainment. We're not gonna have DJs. We're not gonna have bands. No live music." She also said the business had purchased ID-scanning equipment and planned to hire more experienced bouncers and focus more on food service to attract families and older customers.
A local tourism stakeholder urged approval to avoid delaying hotel revenue during a busy season. Councilor Craig moved to approve the licenses, the motion was seconded, and the council voted 5–0 to grant approval. Council members noted that enforcement of liquor laws rests with the State of Maine, meaning state inspectors can revoke a license if requirements are not met.
The approved application was listed on the agenda as to Amarette Dillon doing business as Time Out Sports Bar and Restaurant LLC at 116 Main Street. The council closed the public hearing on the item and approved the license by roll call vote.
