City staff introduced a work-item discussion on creating a Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) map for Toquerville and proposed drawing borders around entitled developments including Firelight, Boulder Ridge and Anderson Junction. City Manager Ben Billingsley said Chief Dave Harmon of the Hurricane Valley Fire District had been invited to speak but was unavailable due to responding to an active fire. Staff noted they do not yet have a firm cost estimate for creating the map and the council requested the item be continued when Chief Harmon is available.
Council members discussed where to place WUI boundaries and the potential cost to produce a mapped layer for code enforcement and development review. The item was left open for future discussion with the fire district present to provide operational input and cost estimates.
