Council rezones two parcels to Highway Commercial amid neighbor objections

The Toquerville City Council voted unanimously July 15 to amend the official zoning map for parcels T-3-0-22-233 and T-3-0-27-144 from Residential (R-1-20) to Highway Commercial (H-C). Councilwoman Jenny Chamberlain moved approval and Councilman Joey Campbell seconded; the motion carried 5-0.
Applicant Bradley Harrell (BAEF LLC) described the parcels and said there is a well on the property and that part of the water rights were donated to the Washington County Water Conservancy District. Public commenters including Andre Villegas and Mike Walker raised concerns about the site’s proximity to homes and the effects of commercial development on nearby neighborhoods. Council discussion referenced the city general plan and zoning designations before voting to approve the ordinance.
