Police report shows large narcotics seizures and rising call volumes in first quarter

A police presenter delivered a quarterly summary of narcotics, gang and street-crimes activity covering Jan. 1–March 31.
The presenter reported totals including 832 traffic stops; roughly 1,106 total cases with about 108 felony cases; 55 fugitive arrests; 59 firearms seized; 30 search warrants executed; and more than 121 pounds of illegal drugs seized in the three-month period. The presenter highlighted a series of incidents in the Little River area that produced multiple arrests and noted the gang unit had arrested people identified as belonging to a known gang set.
Council members and other officials praised the work and expressed concern about rising call volumes and the staffing impact of high-demand periods. One member asked staff to take a closer look at the resource and financial implications of large event periods such as Memorial Day weekend.
"Our officers are out there doing the work, doing getting things done," the presenter said during the report, which concluded with questions from council members.
