Horry County recognizes patrolman for role in Myrtle Beach vehicle pursuit

Horry County leaders recognized Patrolman First Class Turner on the dais for his role in a May 22 vehicle pursuit in Myrtle Beach in which occupants fired at officers. Deputy Chief Wyatt described the incident: Myrtle Beach officers engaged a stolen vehicle on Ocean Boulevard and the suspects opened fire at officers during a chase that ran through Ocean Boulevard, Kings Highway and Market Commons. Turner responded quickly, provided radio updates about his position and road conditions, used lights and sirens to navigate traffic and helped bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion near 62nd Avenue when the vehicle had a minor collision and the occupants surrendered.
"He maintained cool, calm, collective, and good decision making," Deputy Chief Wyatt told the council. Officer Turner thanked his colleagues and said he is "thankful for the guys I work with" and for being able to serve Horry County. Council members praised his actions as an example of interagency collaboration and credited the outcome to coordinated response among local law enforcement agencies.
