Recreation manager announces lap swim start, lifeguard trainings and approved special events

Recreation Manager Austin George told the commission that adult lap swim will begin March 11, with sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 a.m. and weekend sessions from 8 to 10 a.m. He urged more lifeguard and swim-lesson instructor recruitment and outlined three upcoming spring lifeguard training windows (late March, spring break and mid/late April weekend sessions).
"Adult lap swim begins on March 11 and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 05:30 to 7AM," George said, adding that more trained lifeguards would allow the city to expand aquatic-program hours. He also reviewed youth swim schedules (Dixon High School and Dixon Dolphin swim teams), the end of indoor pickleball at John Knight and senior-center rentals. George said the city is partnering with Dixon Rotary for a St. Patrick's Day luncheon March 17 (lunch $3, sign-up by March 14) and that City Council has already approved the Mayfair parade and July 4 fireworks.
The manager said staff are continuing to plan other community events — farmers markets, a wine stroll and a holiday relighting — and will bring event-specific logistics and requests for council permits (for road closures and overtime) to the council as needed.
