Council approves major utilities and emergency repairs including nearly $592,000 in roof work and emergency hospital power restoration

At its March 23 meeting the Niles City Council approved several utilities-related contracts and an emergency purchase to restore hospital power.
Council accepted a $591,994.40 bid from Excel Roofing to repair roofs at the Utilities Department Water and Wastewater Divisions. The council also approved a $66,400 proposal from SAM Analytic Solutions for engineering services to modify the 34.5 kV recloser system as part of the I&M/AEP Substation Upgrade Project. Both items passed on roll-call votes recorded in the minutes.
Separately, the council authorized an emergency purchase from H&G Services for $28,538.18 to restore the primary power feed to Corewell Health Lakeland Niles Hospital. The minutes record a roll-call approval for the emergency expenditure. Peerless Midwest quotes for well rehabilitation (Western Well, approx. $22,400) and Decker Well testing ($4,960) were also accepted.
The minutes list contract amounts and bidders; they do not reproduce engineering scopes of work, bid tabulations, or detailed project schedules. The Utilities Manager was authorized to sign the SAM Analytic proposal and the mayor was authorized to sign the roofing contract.
