Neil Schwartz granted door-signage variance for 430 Main Street

The Zoning Board of Appeals on Aug. 6 approved a variance allowing tenant Neil Schwartz to add identifying lettering and a phone number to the door at 430 Main Street.
Schwartz told the board he had no other exterior access for signage after the prior tenant removed lettering and that customers currently cannot find his business. "So I have a, basically, I just wanted to add my phone number and my logo," he said during the public hearing. Board members discussed size and color; one member described the proposed sample as "15 by 19 and 0.5, that's what the sides going to look like." The applicant acknowledged he must obtain design approval from the Architectural Review Board (ARB) after the variance is granted.
Board members said similar storefront lettering exists along Main Street and that the request appeared minor, causing no negative impact to neighborhood character. A motion to approve the variance was made and seconded; the board closed the public hearing and recorded affirmative roll-call votes. The approval is conditioned on subsequent ARB review for final materials and color.
