Kathy Zusi sworn in as Cambridge city councilor after certification

Kathy Zusi took the oath of office and was sworn in as a city councilor at the Cambridge City Council meeting on Sept. 23. The council voted to take her swearing in out of order, and the city clerk administered the oath while Zusi repeated it. "I, Kathy Zusi, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as a city councilor for the city of Cambridge," Zusi said while raising her right hand.
Mayor Simmons and Vice Mayor McGovern presented Zusi with an official council pin and the chamber recessed for five minutes so attendees could offer personal congratulations. Council members welcomed the newly seated member and the mayor noted the certification by the election commission that allowed her to take the seat left vacant by the passing of Councilor Joan Pickett. The brief ceremonial exchange concluded with the mayor returning the meeting to its published business.
